Looking to mend what has been years of dispute, the Tulare County Board of Supervisors is expected to approve a plan to rejoin the Tulare County Economic Development Corporation this coming fiscal year with a full membership in the organization.

The agenda item is set for April 30. The county would pay $44,212 per year instead its current $10,000 limited membership status in place since 2017.

Announcing a new set of expectations between the two, EDC President and CEO Paul Saldana met with the supervisors March 19 to go over a new business plan for the EDC. The organization has lost membership, including the county, in recent years.

Since 1983, the EDC has served as the marketing and business recruitment organization for the communities of Tulare County, locating more than 100 companies and creating more than 13,000 new jobs, by its own accounting, resulting in the investment of $350 million in the local economy.

For the past few years, the county has supported its own economic development effort that is expected to continue even as it become full partners in the countywide organization, set up to attract new companies to the area.
