Raisins coated with sour strawberry flavoring, the latest craft beer from a Fresno brewery and bloody Mary-flavored almonds are among the 10 products judged to be the most innovative at the upcoming 2017 Fresno Food Expo.

The 10 were whittled down from 28 new product entries that were showcased Wednesday evening during the “Taste, Tally & Tweet” event at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fresno Convention Center, held ahead of the Expo that will be held July 26-27 at the Fresno Convention Center.

But choosing which products top all the others has yet to happen.

And there will be two judgings. One, the “Buyers Choice Award,” will involve a group of restaurant and food industry experts who will sample all the top-ten new food items and drinks and vote for the best one on the first night of the Expo.

Those 10 finalists are:

– Busseto Foods’ California PartyPack – Wine Trail Edition

– Cardella Winery’s 2014 Barbera Reserve

– Pappy’s Fine Foods’ Steak ‘N Grill Seasoning

– Enzo Olive Oil’s ENZO Fresno Chili Crush

– Jasper Specialty Foods’ Bloody Mary Almonds

– L.T. Sue Company’s Ho Tai Chai tea

– Rosa Brothers Milk Company’s and Lanna Coffee Co.’s Cold Brew Coffee Milk

– Sun-Maid Growers of California’s Sour Strawberry Flavored Golden Raisins

– The Brioche Lady’s Purple Yam Brioche

– Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Company’s Half Dome California Wheat beer.

The second award is the “People’s Choice Award,” in which the public can go to the Expo’s Web or Facebook pages and “like” their favorites from a list of all 28 of the submitted new products. The one with the most likes will be named the winner.

“It also is a great opportunity for the companies who submitted new products to get real-time consumer feedback,” states a press release.

Voting for the People’s Choice category closes at 5 p.m. on July 25, and the winner will be announced the following day during the Expo’s evening reception for invited buyers, sponsors and food-industry professionals.

“The innovation, the vision, the drive to create quality products for the marketplace can be seen in this diverse new product line-up,” David Nalchajian, general manager of the Food Expo, said in a press release.

“The New Product Awards continue to showcase the inventive and entrepreneurial spirit that exists in Central California, and helps us tell the story about what makes our region truly unique.”
