Poverello House CEO Cruz Avila has announced his decision to resign from the role he has held since 2013.

No reason was given for his departure, according to a news release that went on to state that Avila will serve as CEO for “another local, community-minded organization” that was not named.

Messages left for Avila were not immediately returned Thursday morning.

“The Board of Directors is grateful for Cruz Avila’s leadership as he helped guide Poverello House to a greater alignment with its mission of enriching the lives and spirits of all who pass our way,” said Board of Directors Co-chair Tom Ferdinandi, in a statement.

Under Avila’s leadership, Poverello House raised money to build a new warehouse, operations center and improved community housing on the Downtown Fresno campus. He also helped launch the Multi-Agency Access Program at Poverello House. Known as MAP, the program features an intake process that connects individuals and families facing housing, substance abuse and physical and mental health challenges to local agencies that provide support services.

A search for Avila’s replacement is underway.
