Majestic Jewelry and Loan pawnshop will be celebrating the unveiling of Downtown Fresno’s newest mural — an homage to classic rock and roll — on Saturday.

The shop will host an alley party that will include live music, food trucks, a beer and wine garden and local art vendors. The mural is painted on the side of the Majestic building at 1924 Tulare St., in the alley just beyond Chukchansi Park’s left field bleachers.

The “Rock N’ Roll Legends” mural displays prominent figures in rock music history including Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Aretha Franklin and The Beatles, among others. The mural is about 85 feet long and 35 feet high, and each portrait is about six feet tall.

Work on the mural started May 17 and was completed today for tomorrow’s unveiling.

From left, artist Brian Broughton was commissioned by Leon Alchian to paint the mural, which began on May 17.

Leon Alchian, owner and manager of Majestic Jewelry and Loan, commissioned the painting because of his love for classic rock music and to be a part of the downtown revitalization, or, “renaissance,” as he describes it.

“The [murals] identify the downtown area,” Alchian said. “We are going to have more and more of these go up on the walls and it’s going to have an identity. Hopefully, it will also draw attention to my building.”

Brian Broughton is the local artist commissioned by Alchian to paint the mural. He has been painting murals for more than 15 years. Broughton has mostly done work in private residences and inside businesses, but this is his first large, outdoor mural.

“I think murals just brighten everything up. It might make people feel good if they’re having a rough day and they look up and see this bright mural. It could give them something else to think about,” Broughton said.

There will also be a ticket raffle for a chance to win some items from the shop.

The raffle prizes include four guitars, an amplifier included with each; a brand new tenor saxophone and case valued at $800; an unsigned Kevin Durant basketball jersey, a lady’s diamond ring valued at $1,000; a 14k gold neck chain valued at $500; and a designer Ferragamo bag valued at $450.

The unveiling party will run from 5-9:00 p.m. For more information about the event, visit the Majestic Jewelry and Loan website.
