A new physician in chief (PIC) has been named for the Kaiser Permanente Fresno service area.

As PIC, Dr. Shahzad Jahromi will be responsible for overseeing about 300 physicians caring for members and patients at the Fresno Medical Center and clinics in the five-county service area.

Jahromi graduated from University of California Irvine with a bachelor’s degree in biology and holds a master’s in environmental health. He earned his medical degree from American University of the Caribbiean School of Medicine in Montserrat, British West Indies. After medical school, he completed his combined medical residency in family medicine and occupational and environmental medicine at Wayne State University, Detroit Medical Center.

Jahromi is a board-certified physician in occupational and preventative medicine and has been with Kaiser Permanente Fresno since 2005.

“I’m extremely honored to be leading a team of physicians who are dedicated to providing high-quality, compassionate care to their patients,” Jahromi said. “Kaiser Permanente’s integrated model of care and emphasis on prevention is why I decided to practice medicine here.”

Jahromi is also serving as a lieutenant colonel with the California Air National Guard.
