Community Medical Centers in Fresno is one of 16 recipients of a series of grants totaling $2.3 million.

The Hearst Foundations awarded the grants in the fields of education, health, culture and social service, reported the San Francisco Chronicle. Community Medical Centers will receive $200,000 for the expansion of its neuroscience program.

The largest donations, however, were a grant for $300,000 for cancer patient navigation at the French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo through the Hearst Cancer Resource Center, along with two $250,000 donations for the Health Habits internship program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, and for a Hearst Math teacher fellowship at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena.

The William Randolph Hearst Foundation and The Hearst Foundation Inc. comprise the Hearst Foundations, named for the 20th century newspaper magnate.
