Harris Construction is spreading holiday cheer with its annual Warmth Drive.

The goal of the drive started by Harris Construction is to collect 500 blankets and coats to give to those in need. As of Dec. 2, 200 items have been donated. The company is asking members of the community to join their effort to meet the 500 mark.

“Thousands of families in our community are without heat, blankets or coats this winter,” said David Parkes, president of Harris Construction. “And although Harris Construction and our ownership, the Spencer family, have a history of giving to our community, I wanted our employees to enjoy the gift of giving as well. We felt a blanket and coat drive was a great cause that out staff, industry partners and the community would enjoy doing together.”

Some local subcontractors, fellow contractors, union members, vendors, suppliers and customers that do business with Harris have already come forward with donations. Subcontractor Valley Fence was the first to respond to the drive, donating 16 brand-new all-weather coats and down blankets.

All donations will be distributed to those in need by Catholic Charities of the Central Valley.

The blanket and coat drive runs through Dec. 13. Donations can be dropped off any weekday between 7:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at a Harris Construction Job Site or at the Harris Construction corporate office at 5286 E. Home Ave. in Fresno. Coats donated should be new or gently used.
