After 37 years in business, a Fresno nursery on the path of the high-speed rail system will be closing its doors this week.

Riverside Nursery and Landscape Supplies announced the closure via an Aug. 31 Facebook post. The family owned nursery at 5215 N. Golden State Blvd., just north of Shaw Avenue, has been open since 1980.

“Despite giving it our very best effort to find a replacement site prior to our displacement, we have not succeeded,” read the Facebook post.

“We can’t thank you enough for all the patronage and wonderful experiences you have given us,” the post continues.

Owner Mitch Hutcheson told The Fresno Bee in 2011 that about half of his nursery sits on the proposed rail right of way, and that plans to remodel the nursery and sell it to his son were in “limbo.”

Hutcheson couldn’t be reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.

The nursery is currently holding a closeout sale to clear all inventory, with a planned closing date on Sunday.
