The City of Clovis is once again hosting its “Big Wins Day” promotion to benefit retailers and shoppers.

The first promotion took place in 2008 and was introduced as a challenge to inject an additional $1 million into the local economy during one 24-hour period. The promotion has taken various forms, from a prize raffle with tickets awarded based on the amount spent at Clovis retailers and eateries to a 1-percent rebate of sales tax for a car purchase.

This year, city officials are asking people who shop and dine in Clovis on Dec. 13 to share the experience by posting a photo and caption on Facebook. Participants will be entered into a drawing to win prizes.

Customers are asked to post their picture on the contest page on the City of Clovis Facebook page. Throughout the day Dec. 13, city officials will randomly select winners.

“This is a great community-wide event,” said Clovis City Manager Luke Serpa. “It’s our way of giving back to the community while representing Clovis’ ability to keep money circulating. This is true local economic stimulus.”

City of Clovis Mayor Bob Whalen said “Big Wins Day” has been a success since its inception.

“It worked, and the public loved the event,” he said, adding that it garnered national attention and was duplicated in other cities.
