Today’s edition of The Business Journal should just about be hitting mailboxes across the Central Valley, and one of the stories looks at how Ulta’s new Fresno e-commerce distribution center is faring.

It’s an important time for the cosmetics retailer, which nearly a year ago opened the Fresno distribution center. It recently reported very encouraging fourth-quarter earnings, and Fresno has a part in that.

Fun fact: 21 percent of Ulta’s e-commerce orders come from Fresno.

And more evidence that sometimes business is a zero-sum game, Ulta this week should just about finish closing an e-commerce distribution center in Phoenix, Arizona.

The company has maintained that the new Fresno center and Phoenix’s closure are not related. But it’s definitely something to ponder.
