Born and raised in Fresno, Valerie is a young journalist who has been privileged to work for several local community newspapers in the area.

After graduating from Fresno State with a B.A. in Mass Communication and Journalism, Valerie Shelton worked for Mid Valley Publishing as the editor of two small weeklies—The Orange Cove and Mountain Times and The Parlier Post. After serving in that capacity for two and a half years, Valerie transferred within Mid Valley Publishing to work as the editor of The Fowler Ensign. Valerie then went on to serve as the first full-time editor of the growing Clovis biweekly community newspaper, the Clovis Roundup.

At each publication, Valerie Shelton dedicated herself to serving the community and covered a variety of beats, from city government to education to small business, working as the main reporter as well as editor. Now, she is excited to hone her reporting skills with The Business Journal, covering health care, retail, small business, technology, education, media and marketing, and sports and entertainment. Valerie currently lives in Southeast Fresno with her husband Ben and two longhaired dachshunds, Winston and Rory.
