Robert Wood

President
Generation Homes

What we do: Generation Homes was started in 1996 and has evolved from a production-subdivision homebuilder to a design-build residential and light commercial general construction firm. Our employment has grown from three to as high as 45 to our current level of 18. Our primary focus is residential remodeling and custom home building. Our clients typically are looking for a one-stop shop for construction design, management, and decorating services.  We offer all of those services with a process that is inherently transparent.  Our construction experience covers the gamut from custom and production homes, kitchen and bath remodels, home performance audits and retrofits to light commercial tenant improvements and new commercial construction.  We have also created a home performance division that offers a comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis of the home and added a painting division focused on residential and light commercial.

Paprika Studios, LLC

What we do: Online strategy and communication, website and email campaign development

Education: B.A. in Communication Studies from University of North Carolina, Greensboro; M.A. in Leadership & Organizational Studios from Fresno Pacific University

Age: 31

How did you come to establish Paprika Studios?
I started learning how to use online tools and build websites to carry out my own ideas — one of those being TasteFresno, which has grown into a large community of local foodies. That led to freelance projects, which led to more ideas. With the rise of social media several years back, I realized there was a need for helping businesses and community organizations navigate the web’s ever-evolving communication channels, so I created Paprika Studios.

Lori Granger

Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist/Owner
The Center for Minfulness in Fresno

What we do: I founded The Center for Mindfulness in 2008 after experiencing for myself how beneficial the practice of Mindfulness was in my own life. I actually came up with the idea in the days following 9/11/2001. I was on a plane from New York to Los Angeles that tragic morning and was stranded in Nebraska with time to consider my own life’s path.

What kind of restoration have you done on the KRESS building over the last few years?
Beginning in 1896, Samuel H Kress built hundreds of architecturally distinguished buildings around the country for his chain of 5-10-25¢ stores. The chain ceased operating in 1980. The Fresno store dates from the 1920s. In the 1950s the upper floors were closed off and the exterior sheathed hiding the Kress decor. The ground floor continued as a retail store. In 2010 I had that covering removed and restored the elaborate exterior.

What first sparked your interest in the auto industry?
My wife and I were dating in high school and her brother was working as a car salesman. He convinced me to give selling cars a try. So I began in Oxnard at a Chevrolet dealership. I met my first customer on the lot and sold him a car. My first month, I was the top salesman. I fell in love with the business instantly. All my life I had been selling stuff, I sold furniture in high school. Cars were fun to sell. I loved what I was doing.
