Comcast has announced it is launching so-called "wideband" Internet service in the Central Valley market with speeds as high as 50 megabytes per second. With the service, called Extreme 50, customers can download a high-definition movies (about six gigabytes of information) in about 16 minutes, a standard-definition movie (two gigabytes) in five minutes and a standard-definition television show (300 megabytes) in a matter of seconds. "Wideband utilizes our existing fiber-optic network in neighborhoods across our footprint. with this next generation of service, our customers' online experience is dramatically enhanced," said Steve White, senior VP of Comcast's California region, in a statement. |
