Kohl’s is coming to Hanford.

What was once a Mervyn’s, will now be home to the popular department store, a move Kohl’s has made with several of the retail spaces left vacant with the bankruptcy and subsequent closing of Mervyn’s.

Kohl’s signed a 20-year lease agreement for the 68,726-square-foot location with Inland Western Real Estate Trust, Inc., the company overseeing property management on many of the Mervyn’s properties.

According to a statement released by Inland Western, it has re-leased seven out of the 25 former Mervyn’s locations, with another 12 currently being negotiated.

“We are witnessing an increase in leasing velocity as certain retailers, particularly those we have tenured relationships with, continue to select our properties when evaluating their real estate needs,” said Kris Wojtecki, asset manager of Western Inland.

No word was available on when Kohl's would open its doors on the new location.
