Sleep Train announces acquisition, expansion

In conjunction with the acquisition of Christian Mattress Xpress, Sacramento-based Sleep Train announced it will convert three of the acquired stores in the Central Valley to Sleep Train locations and build at least four more this year.

The three stores that will be transformed are in Visalia, Fresno and a warehouse/outlet store in Fowler.

The company also announced plans to building four to five new locations in the Valley next year.

“Our goal is to continue to grow our business through acquisition and new store openings,” said Dale Carlsen, CEO of Sleep Train, in a release. “This expansion will bring Sleep Train into two of the top ten largest cities in the state, as well as the fast-growing community of Visalia.”

Sleep Train, which is employee-owned, will keep Christian Mattress Xpress founder Ron Gonzalez as part of the team.

“It’s an incredible opportunity for my team,” Gonzalez said, in a release.  “They will join one of the few employee-owned companies in the United States, become part of a talented team that represents the largest mattress retail brand on the West Coast, and be able to contribute to their community through an award winning philanthropic program.”
