A new lease has been signed for the former Claim Jumper location in Fresno, vacant since the restaurant closed in late 2010.
Sources say the 13,952 square-foot space in the River Park Plaza shopping center is the one listed in a Retail California transaction report for a lease at the northeast corner of Blackstone and Nees avenues to an entity called Cowgirls Investors, LLC.
Local restaurateur David Fansler is listed as the agent for Cowgirls Investors, LLC, according to the California Secretary of State website.
Fansler’s other restaurant ventures include the nearby Pismo’s Coastal Grill in the Villaggio shopping center and the Yosemite Ranch steak house at the Via Montana shopping center at Champlain and Shepherd avenues. He also founded and later sold Tahoe Joe’s Famous Steak House.
Fansler confirmed that the lease was signed, but wouldn’t comment further on the venture. He said more information would be forthcoming in a couple of weeks.
Messages left for property manager Lance-Kashian & Co. were not returned.
Peter Orlando of Retail California represented both sides of the lease deal. When reached for comment, his assistant told The Business Journal that it was too early to comment on the transaction for legal reasons.
No word on when the new restaurant may open. No tenant improvement activity was apparent at the location last week. The type of restaurant is also a mystery, though Fansler owns the web domain name cowgirlsbbq.com.
In 2007, Fansler had plans to open another restaurant called the Cowgirl Steakhouse in the Universal Park shopping center near Villaggio that were scrapped due to an ongoing federal tax case Fansler was facing. He was later cleared of the charges, according to a December 2007 Fresno Bee article.
