Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin will participate in the 25th annual Kids Day event on Tuesday by selling special editions of the Fresno Bee on the southwest corner of Shaw and Blackstone avenues.
Swearengin will be selling the newspapers at about 7:30 a.m. on what has been dubbed “Celebrity Corner,” since it will include several celebrity newspaper hawkers, including Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer and three National Football League players: Richard Marshall of the Arizona Cardinals, James Sanders of the Atlanta Falcons and Stephan Spach of the St. Louis Rams, all of whom played football at Fresno State. Local violinist Patrick Contreras will play music at the corner as well.
The organizers of Celebrity Corner, Fresno Bee opinion page editor Jim Boren and columnist Bill McEwen, will begin selling papers along with other volunteers at 5 a.m. Kids Day, which is sponsored by the Fresno Bee and television station ABC 30, has raised more than $5 million for Children’s Hospital Central California.
