Local public relations pros earn Image awards

2012 Image Awards2012 Image AwardsCentral California public relations professionals were honored today for their 2011 work presented through various mediums.

The 2011 Image Awards for Excellence in Public Relations was presented by the Public Relations Society of America Central California Chapter, whose region covers Modesto to Bakersfield over to the Central Coast.

The award of PR Professional of the Year was given to Lanny Larson, senior writer and editor at Fresno State. John Alkire, CEO of The Big Fresno Fair, took the award for Executive of the Year. He acknowledged the work of Cohen Communications, the Fresno firm that handles PR for the fair.

"You are only as good as the people you surround yourself with," Alkire said. "I'm truly, truly blessed to be with good people in a great community."

Katie Rodgers, director of public relations for the Fresno County Farm Bureau, was given the award of PR Rookie of the Year for professionals in the industry three years or less. She joined the bureau in 2010 soon after graduating from Fresno State.

Judy Ganulin, a 30-year public relations professional in the Valley and cofounder of the local PRSA chapter, also received a special recognition award. Her peers said she is known for selflessly helping other PR professionals. Ganulin is retiring and moving to Lincoln near Sacramento at the end of the month.

"None of the packing and sorting made my cry, but you are going to make me cry," she joked to the luncheon audience at Pardini's in Fresno.
