Tulare residents looking to get rid of their old electronic junk can visit the Tulare County Fairgrounds on June 30 as Sequoia Community Corps holds a free recycling event.
Located on O Street between Elm and Cedar streets, the event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Since California law prohibits electronic waste from being disposed of in landfills, all kinds of household electronic items will be taken in, including televisions, computer equipment, cell phones, stereo systems and microwaves.
When the recyclable material is sold to waste haulers and recyclers, proceeds will benefit youth members of the Sequoia Community Corp.
A project of the Visalia nonprofit organization Community Services Employment Training, Sequoia Community Corps offers job training for youth throughout Tulare, Kings and Kern counties while providing recycling and construction services for low-income communities.
Since its inception 25 years ago, more than 4,000 young adults have received job training through the project.
