Fresno State culinary professor earns baking award

Tengergen was one of only two to be named by Modern Baking magazine's in its monthly publication to receive the 2012 Leadership Award for Industry Service.

 

Specifically, the awarded recognizes him for his service to the baking industry as a teacher, association leader and mentor.

Tenbergen, director of Fresno State Culinology program, has been teaching at the university since 2006, when he started as an assistant professor in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition.

Before that, the native of Germany worked as a pastry chef and cooking educator in Europe, Africa and the United States.

In addition to heading up the Culinology program, Tenbergen is also an assistant professor of food and nutrition with Fresno State.

He has also won various cooking contests, consulted for a gluten-free bakery in Bolivia, written a text and authored a Q&A column for Modern Baking, as well as teaching cooking to children with special needs.
