2011 Visalia building permits trump last year

Some encouraging news came out of the Visalia construction market with building permit values up 20 percent over last year.

The value of permits issued in the city was $100 million by August, compared to $83 million for the first eight months of 2010.

Permits issued for new commercial projects are up 11 percent for the year. The value of those permits were up 276 percent with $33.7 million through August compared to $8.9 million in 2010.

Throughout the Central Valley, building permits were down around 12.5 percent by August to roughly 4,200 with total values down 22 percent to around $464 million, according to the Construction Industry Research Board.
