The City of Fresno released the following statement yesterday pertaining to the status of “The Edge” nightclub at Granite Park:"Local media reports this evening regarding the status of “The Edge” nightclub have included statements claiming a “deal” has been worked out with the City of Fresno allowing the opening of the business on Friday. Please be advised that the City has entered into no such agreement. City officials met with Mr. Milt Barbis and Mr. Kirk Vartanian today at City Hall to discuss the project following the issuance of a “stop work” order yesterday at the property. The order was issued after City inspectors discovered that construction work was being performed at the property without required permits. Following today’s meeting, the City issued standard construction permits following the payment of appropriate fees. The City also specified a number of stringent conditions Mr. Barbis, the property owner, must meet before a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy will be issued. A Certificate of Occupancy is required before the “The Edge” is permitted to open for business. If issued, a Temporary Certificate of Occupancy will be valid for 30 days only. The City has given no assurance to Mr. Barbis or Mr. Vartanian that a Certificate of Occupancy will be issued. Inspections of the property will be conducted to determine whether all necessary requirements have been met before a decision is made. The City is also requiring a $10,000 cash bond be provided in advance to ensure compliance with notices and orders. In addition, Mr. Barbis is required to make a substantial payment on past due utility charges before “The Edge” begins operations. The remainder of the utility charges will continue to be due and payable." |
